L'école d'ingénieurs et d’architectes de Fribourg en Suisse vient de complètement réorganiser son secteur de recherche appliquée et développement. A cette occasion un Institut des Système Complexes (CoSI) a été créé. Il est conjointement dirigé par le Prof. Pierre Kuonen et le Prof. Jean Hennebert. Durant ce séminaire nous présenterons tout d'abord notre école, ce nouvel institut et un survol de quelques projets R&D en cours. Ensuite nous présenterons une thèse de Master d'un de nos étudiants en cours de réalisation au MIT dans le domaine des "Complex Engineering Systems". Il s'agit du projet CSAT:Complex Software Analysis Toolkit dont le but est d'analyser et de visualiser la propagation des changement dans de grands logiciels open source comme par exemple Linux.


  • Pierre Kuonen : Born on 23th of July 1958, he obtained a Master degree in electrical engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in January 1982 and a Ph.D. degree in 1993. From 1994 to 2000 he has been a scientific collaborator at the Computer Science Theory Laboratory making researchs in the fields of parallel languages and massively parallel computing. During this period he was leader of Parallel Computing Research Group (GRIP) and managed several european projects (STORMS and EuroTOPS-RiskPro) as well as national research projects (LEOPARD, PERFO, PARCEL and ADOOC). In 2000 he became full professor at University of Applied Sciences, Valais (HEVs) and in March 2002 he also became professor at University of Applied Sciences of Fribourg (EIA-FR). From March 2003 he is full time professor at University of Applied Sciences of Fribourg where he is heading the GRID and Cloud Computing Group. He is teaching Software Engineering (UML) and parallel and distributing programming. He is involved in several national and internationals research projects. From 2004 to 2009 he was strongly involved in the CoreGRID Network of Excellence.
  • Jean Hennebert : Holding an Electrical Engineering and Telecommunication degree as well as a Ph.D. in 1998 in Computer Science (artificial neural networks applied to speech and speaker recognition), Jean Hennebert has been accumulating 8 years of experience in private companies and 10 years in research institutions. In 98, he held a position of System Architect with UBS, largest bank of Switzerland. In 2000, he co-founded UbiCall Communications SA (Belgium), that offers advanced voice-activated telephony product and services for telecommunication carriers and corporations. In october 2004, he joined the DIVA group of the computer science department of the University of Fribourg Switzerland, full time from 2004 to 2007 and part-time until now. From 2007 until now, he joined as full professor the University of Applied Sciences HES-SO. From 2007 to 2011, he was delegated to the Wallis part of the HES-SO, in the Business Information System Institute of Sierre. From 2011 till now, he am part of the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies, Engineering College in Fribourg. His activities in HES-SO includes teaching 3 classes at the bachelor and master level and managing research projects from funding to execution. His research with HES-SO includes applied signal processing and machine learning, as well as green-it and it-for-green projects.
