Pharmacology

Pharmacology studies of natural molecules shaped by evolution deserve more attention from medicinal chemists in the future. For instance: are the "secondary matabolites" produced by micro-organisms "secondary" ? Many recent examples showed that "secondary matabolites" produced by micro-organisms are essential to their survival and their communications cell to cells (collective behaviour). Studies of the functions of the metabolites, comparison of the gene and protein databases will be essential to guide the medicinal chemists to design new active agents useful for drug discoveries, or to mimic the function of gene mutations.
